Thirteen Ways To Look At Water

©Sharon Rose

I

Always unseen oceans,
existence stirs waters
with infinite horizons.

II

I am many thoughts,
Air stream sprays water,
akin tides flood.

III

You sail on the sea,
see the sun reflect off water,
sea-life frolics, round and round
the sailboat.

IV

A captain and first mate,
must flow as one team.

V

Adjusting sails, will
become wings,
which glide
all directions.

VI

Seas are open roads,
no curbing guides.
Freeways of blue,
dots of wildlife, splash,
swim up aside.

VII

The three sea nymphs;
Seirenes, ‘Sirens’
lure sailors one way onto islands.
This time; blocked by Poet Orpheus,
no bewitching music heard.
Sail away, sail away they do!

VIII

Water is a cleansing sea.
Shining; splashes, blue shadows,
jump. Oh the dolphins! Sirens,
maybe I cannot know!

IX

Only waves are seen for a moment.
The dolphins swim away from view.
Water turns to smooth glass.

X

Flying over the water, white birds
turn to gold in afternoon setting sun.

XI

On return to port, the reflections
on smooth glass, between grasses
are puddles of tangerines with
imperial purples, breathless beauty!

XII

Tides moving intercoastal waterways
moving to docks for the evening.

XIII

Sunset is done; with darkness
fallen, firework’s flare burst in the air!
The light show, beside the
Cooper Bridge in marvelous rainbows.
Waters all return to glass.

who lured sailors to their death with a bewitching song.

Interesting metaphor, the dolphins as sirens. The poem follows the pattern of its model faithfully. I have had an enjoyable visit. Thanks for it.

Yeah! I’m so glad you chose Stevens. I was there on the ocean with you. I bet you could come up with another 13! Thanks for joining. Victoria
