Scars and Ashes

As psyches sigh,

A brain drowns,

No real battles,

A few sounds,

Just the rattles,

Heart pounds.

Stomach pang.

Opposite high,

Retains crown.

Maybe a bang?

Deceptive cues,

Personae alter,

‘Pollyanna’ hues,

Stoic, comes falter.

Others sang.

‘Honeymoons Over,’

Mendacious priest,

Two faces hover,

Drowned at very least!

Voices clang!

Convenient for rover,

Off dearheart runs

As for her sober,

The brunt of their puns.

Struggling with pang.

Voices, with prayer says,

Disappointment, in tears,

New meaning ‘jabez’.

No anger, victim or sears.

In past hearts sprang.

Leaving this life ‘a muse’.

Just me so it may appear

No one to accuse.

his life back into arrear.

She is one big prang!

Heart game, a curiosity,

Naïvely, last to perceive.

A genetic paucity,

Mind and heart, reave.

Always connect to yang.

Paucity until death

His love, unconsciousness

Hers like ‘Macbeth’

A pawn for their chess!

no longer hearing, bell rang.

Silence, praying for an egress

So many, their victims and voices,

A childlike, retreat and regress.

Knowing, limits their choices

of Him, will boomerang!

Siring unaffected simplicity,

fleeing out from asunder.

detangling the complexity.

avoiding the thunder.

into motion thy sprang.

She told him too much,

he knew just what to say

put them under your feet

day after day, like a play

no grass growing under his feet

shaking the dust off her shoes

she is a very good muse

phoenix rising from sand

his mind became obtuse

generous and patient

he waited and waited

finally with strength

doing what she despised

travelling great length

removing his hand

he did not realize she has

left the encampments

taking his words to heart

far enough for scars to heal

turning ashes to cement.

no one’s muse and you

should watch your intent!

Not so naïvely waiting?

That is very good, and the short lines move it along and as they get longer the pace becomes emotive. Well done!

I enjoyed the complexity and the message of this poem.

I agree with Shanyns–the emotion builds as the pace increases and it works well–very nice.
